Our Purpose
As a local congregation of believers, our mission is to exalt Christ in our worship...
Psalm 34:3: "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together."
...to disciple and equip the saints through Bible preaching/teaching...
Ephesians 4:11-16: "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love."
...and to evangelize the world by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ to all that will hear, baptizing believers, and teaching the whole counsel of God.
Matthew 28:18-20: "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

Our Beliefs
As a Baptist church, we preach the gospel of salvation by God’s grace alone, received by faith in Jesus Christ alone as Ephesians 2:8-9 and Romans 3:21-26 state.
We practice baptism by immersion for believers only according to Acts 8:36-38.
We aim to glorify Christ through declaring the Good News of His death, resurrection, ascension, and future return. (I Corinthians 15:1-58)
We believe that Jesus Christ has died for sinners Romans 5:8, making full reconciliation for them with his blood, according to Romans 5:9-11, and has risen again from the dead: granting eternal life for those who believe (I Corinthians 15:20-28).
As our risen Lord and Savior, we believe that Jesus Christ commands His church to proclaim this Good News to all people: preaching repentance and the forgiveness of sins to all nations as we find in Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-47.

Our History
Carmel Baptist Church is the oldest Baptist church in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Our church was initially named French Creek Regular Baptist Church at our constitution in 1805. There were twenty founding members. At that time, the church met at the house of John Jones on Dec. 14, 1805 and elected two deacons, three helps, a clerk, and a singing clerk.
In 1827 our church's name was changed to Carmel Baptist Church. There have been three meeting houses, one log and two frame buildings. The first two buildings were two miles north of Mosiertown. The present house of worship was built in 1856. In 1958, a basement was dug out to provide for Sunday School rooms and a fellowship Hall. The church parsonage was built in 1877, and then was significantly increased in size in 1988.
Our church fellowships with the Pennsylvania Association of Regular Baptist Churches.
